Blueprint of eukaryotic cells
Many unicellular organisms and all multicellular organisms are made up of eukaryotic cells. The most important characteristic that gives it its name is the cell nucleus (eukaryon). While some cell components and organelles are part of the basic blueprint of all eukaryotes, others only occur in certain organisms or tissue types.
The components and organelles of animal cells are described in more detail on the following pages. The most important organelles of the plant cell, the chloroplasts, are dealt with in detail in the learning unit Chloroplasts - the photosynthesis factories of cells.
