Empirical gas laws for ideal gases
The first experiments using the inductive or phenomenological method were carried out as early as the 17th century. The state of a gas, which is assumed to be ideal, was determined with the aid of the state variables (state variable)
- Temperature,
- Volume,
- Amount of substance and
- pressure
described. The changes in these quantities depending on each other were examined.
The law of Robert Boyle and Edme Mariotte, the law of Jacques Charles and Joseph Gay-Lussac and the law of Amadeo Avogadro mention important connections. These laws can be summarized in the general gas equation.
